Last fall, Together for Mental Health: Tools for Everyday continued the conversation the Shulze and Meyer’s families started in 2023, as well as provided tools for everyday mental health management. Once again, the event was free of charge and targeted high school and college age students navigating the daily rigors of academics and athletics. Olympic, professional and collegiate athletes; as well as professional coaches, sports media personalities, and therapists introduced resources and present powerful techniques that attendees could share with their teams, groups, teachers, administrators and families.

Together for Mental Health - 2023

In October of 2023, grieving parents Brigitte and Scott Shulze, and Gina and Steve Meyer joined forces in an effort to start a conversation in their community about the importance of mental health. The non-profit organizations they formed in their late daughters’ names, the Sarah Shulze Foundation and Katie’s Save respectively, hosted the first ever Together for Mental Health event which brought more than 1,000 student-athletes, coaches and parent together inside their shared community’s civic arts plaza. Experts in the fields of mental health, sports psychology, and family therapy guided conversations about mental well-being. Guests were treated to presentations by Victoria Garrick Browne, founder of The Hidden Opponent (@thehiddenopponent); Dr. Carrie Hastings, team psychologist for the LA Rams and Angel City FB; and Dr. Al Luddington, a well-regarded local family therapist. The evening was hosted by ESPN’s Sean Farnham and was closed with the audience rising and collectively repeating apowerful but simple chant: “I matter!”.
